The Translohr is a part of the new generation of light-rail urban tramways. Being a real tool to re-conquer the urban space and to transform the city as well as its use in-depth, it offers a unique ease of urban insertion thanks to its manoeuvrability and its man-sized gauge
It presents all the characteristics of a modern tramway : permanent guiding, wide-transportation capacity, bi-directionality (two driving cabs), modularity, integral low floor (25cm), total interior intercommunication... while overcoming, thanks to its travelling on tyres, the well-known downsides of the railway bogie : heaviness of platform, squeaking in curves, vibrations, weak adherence, high cost of installation and lengthy implementation delays. The Translohr, therefore, associates technical performances (reversible vehicles, turning radii reduced to 10.5m, guiding system mechanically derailment-safe and installed on a central monorail, secured braking, simplified equipments at the depot) and discretion (silence, flexibility, lightness).
