Draisy: the “lightweight” battery-powered train from SNCF and Lohr

Developed by SNCF and Lohr, Draisy is a battery-powered train that cuts both weight and cost in half compared to a conventional regional train (TER). Supported by the “France 2030” plan via ADEME (with €12.8 million in funding), the project aims for deployment by 2029 in the Grand Est and Occitanie regions, where it will replace diesel trains.

The objective is twofold: to combat the isolation of rural areas by maintaining service on low-traffic lines, and to encourage a modal shift from cars to rail.
