Munich experiments with the Cristal : even greater comfort and environmental friendliness for Munich’s public transport system.
As part of its European strategy for sustainable urban mobility, the city of Munich is experimenting with Lohr’s Cristal electric shuttle system. Since September 16, 2025, three Cristal shuttles have been operating on part of line 167 in Hadern, as part of a project run in partnership with Munich’s transport company (MVG – Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH). This project aims to demonstrate how the modularity and operational flexibility of Cristal shuttles can effectively meet the needs of residents, particularly in residential and suburban areas.
The experimental routes, operated on line E167, connect several strategic stops in the neighborhood between Waldriedhof and Großhaderner Straße. At each terminus, the vehicles split up to serve different areas, then regroup for the return journey. This configuration offers greater flexibility and allows for a precise response to residents’ needs.
