DRAISY – 100% light 100% frugal
DRAISY, a very light train for passenger transport, is intended to give a new lease of life to small railway lines in rural areas.
With three other partners, GCK Battery, Stations-e and the IRT Railenium, SNCF and LOHR are the winners of the “Digitalisation and Decarbonisation of Rail Transport” call for expressions of interest with DRAISY. This CEI is part of the fourth PIA4 (French “Investing in the Future” programme) aimed at designing the railways of tomorrow and optimising their operation.
The train of small local lines serving rural communities
In the consortium, Lohr provides the rolling stock compatible with the DRAISY solution.
100% battery-powered electric train which can be recharged rapidly in stations in a way that is very convenient for operations without impacting passenger service.
It meets the needs of nearly 9,000 km of local lines serving rural communities in France and the needs of international networks.
This very light train places a reduced load on the rails (<10 t per axle) and is equipped with steerable wheelsets. These two major innovations contribute to limiting rail wear. DRAISY incorporates frugal solutions from the road transport world. All of these innovations make it possible to considerably reduce the cost of operation and maintenance compared to current solutions (60% less expensive).
